Otumoetai Cadets Selection Policy

Senior Men's

 Administrative:

  • All team selections will be undertaken by the Selection Committee to be appointed by the Board on an annual basis.
  • Where possible, teams should be selected by the start of training on Thursday.
  • The Selection committee, prior to the publication of the teams, will advise all players who are promoted or dropped.

Unavailability:

  • Players are required to notify the Selection Committee if they are unavailable for any game by Tuesday practice on the week of the game.
  • The Selectors will continually maintain & update the 'un-availability list' prior to team selections.
  • If a player misses a game, he will not be automatically re-selected in that grade.

Selection Criteria:

  • Players eligible for selection are those on the club's registration list.
  • Skill, all round performance, attitude, commitment & fitness, (We will look at all aspects of play that is batting, bowling and fielding).
  • Team Balance.
  • Financial status, (Subs and any debt to club up to date and paid)
  • Training Attendance. Players wishing to be selected for the 1st XI or 2nd XI are asked to train twice per week, Tuesday & Thursday. If only wanting to play 3rd XI then only one practice is necessary on Thursday. If players cannot attend due to other commitments, they must advise their coach or captain
  • We promote a competitive environment whereby players are encouraged to strive for selection in any grade.
  • We are keen to promote young players as possible into senior cricket, however, selections will continue to be made in the best interests of the club first, and the team concerned overall.

Late Withdrawals:

  • If a player withdraws from a team after the notification deadline (Thursday 5pm), the Selectors of that team will select a replacement from the team below or 'stand by pool'.

In the event of non-selection, or not being selected on the team you expected:

  • Speak to the coach or captain of the relevant team to understand why you have not been selected.
  • You are still expected to be available for the team below to work your way into the team you wish to play for.
  • Identify areas to improve and progress, and evidence those in your training and performance in matches.

Senior Club Player Pathway

We are keen on establishing a pathway for our college players through to senior cricket. In some cases college players may be invited to attend senior trainings as well as part of their development and it also gives the selectors an opportunity to see how they may cope in the environment, both ability-wise and emotionally.

Junior Selections

From college cricket down is considered our Junior cricket. As best we can, we aim is to select players to play in a grade where they will have a good opportunity to challenge themselves but also a fair chance of personal success as well. Although the teams basically stay the same from week to week there may also be times throughout the season where the opportunity may arise to play up a level depending on availabilities and/or form. In some instances we may play 12 players (10 in the intermediate grade) on a Saturday and have one non-batter for the day. This is to get as many players on the field as we can each week. This non-batter will be rotated around rather than the same player each week.

Unavailability:

  • Players are required to notify the Selection Committee if they are unavailable for any game by Tuesday practice on the week of the game.

Girls Cricket

We are hoping to have two full girl’s teams this year, one playing in a college grade and one in an intermediate grade. Due to the numbers of girls playing at the moment there is some flexibility in the ages some college aged girls can also play in the intermediate grade. We will look to place the girls in the teams that are the right fit for them to get the most enjoyment out of the game for them.

Sunday League Selections

Please refer to the Sunday League page under the Grades tab.

Please remember that there are only so many positions in any one team on any one day. By training the relative age groups all together we hope to get a club feel where all the players get to know the other players in other grades meaning they get to test themselves against players from higher grades and also hopefully feel a bit more comfortable if called upon to play in another team.
