Junior Cricket Formats 2021-22

SuperSmash

4-6 Years Great introduction to cricket for beginners aged 4 - 6 years old that may not want to play a whole game. It is based around drills and skills with a short game at the end. Please note: This program is run through the NZC SuperStar Academy on Thursday afternoons.

Division 3:

5-7 Years. 9 am - 10 am Saturdays: Our youngest cricketers. The first season of softball kiwi cricket style rules. Everybody gets a turn to bat, bowl field, and wicket keeping. 12 over max, 10m-14m length Pitch, 2 equal teams (usually 6), Plastic Bat, Wickets, Cones, Tennis Ball, Bat in pairs

Batting:

  • Each team to bat partnerships (2 batsmen) for 4 overs each
  • If the batsman misses the ball he hits another ball placed on a cone in front of him and then run between the wickets.
  • The cone is changed at the end of each over to the leg side then the off side so batsmen learn to hit either side of the wicket.
  • No boundaries – batsmen must run everything!
  • Each player can be out numerous times but stays batting for full 4 overs of the partnership – but on being out batsmen change ends.

 Bowling:

  • Each child to bowl 2 overs each – no child to bowl second over until each player has bowled their first.
  • Maximum of 6 balls per over including wides
  • If the batsman misses the ball he/she has a FREE hit off the cone.
  • If a wide ball is hit NO wide is called
  • No more than one swing per ball by the batman
  • There are no NO BALLS at this level

Division 2:

5-9 Years. 9 am-11 am Saturdays: Softball Cricket - 20 over games with 4 or 5 over batting partnerships. Everybody gets a turn to bat, bowl field and wicket keeping. 16 overs max, 14-meter length wicket, 30 meter Boundary, Incrediball Softball, Bat in pairs (5 overs each), Bowlers bowl 2 overs each, Max 6 ball overs, No LBW, No Balls/Wides – 1 run

Batting:

  • For Gold Division – It is compulsory for Batsmen to wear at least a front pad, & box.
  • Each team to bat 4 partnerships (2 batsmen) for 5 overs each
  • Each player can be out numerous times but stays batting for full 5 overs of the partnership – but on being out should go to nonstrikers end.                            

Bowling:

  • Each child to bowl a minimum of two overs each and a maximum of three – no child to bowl third over until each has bowled their second. In order for the to bowl 20 overs, 4 players will bowl three overs and four will bowl two.
  • All overs to be bowled from the same end
  • Maximum of 6 balls per over including wides and no balls.
  • Wides are called if the ball passes outside the lines of the batsman’s crease.
  • A ball which bounces three (3) times or more before reaching the batsman’s crease is a no-ball
  • A full toss above the batsman’s waist is a no-ball
  • Wides and no balls count as one run.
  • If a wide ball is hit or hits the batsman NO wide is called.
  • All extras are credited to the batsmen

Coaching/Management: Parents

Division 1:

8-10 Years. 9 am-11:30 am Saturday mornings. The first season of Hardball cricket & more normal cricket rules start to apply. When the batsman is out they are out. Everybody is encouraged to bat & bowl. Games up to 25 overs per innings. 20 overs per innings, Pitch length 16 meters, 35 meter Boundary, 142gm Hard Ball, Bat in pairs, Each dismissal worth 3 runs to fielding team, No LBW’s, No Balls 2 runs.

Batting:

  • Each batting pair will bat their 5 over allotment
  • All balls, including wides and no balls, will be added into the batters ball count
  • If a batter gets out, the batters change ends, and the agreed number of runs can be subtracted from their team’s total

Bowling:

  • All bowling is to take place from one end only
  • Bowling directives for bowlers; All 8 players are to have a minimum of 2 overs. All players are to have a maximum of 3 overs (2 over spell)
  • All overs are 6 ball overs with a maximum of 8 balls if extras are required to be bowled
  • Run ups for bowlers should not exceed more than 10 meters (from the stumps)

Intermediate Reserve Girls Teams:

Predominantly Year 7, 9 am-11:30 am Saturday mornings.. T/20 Rules, Pitch length 18 meters, 40 metre Boundary. A batter faces 6 balls before being dismissed. Compulsory Batter retires after 30 balls. Max 6 overs per bowler. Max 6 ball overs except last over which has max 8 balls. No Balls & Wides 1 run. LBW’s on the front leg on or behind crease line

Intermediate Premier Blue and Gold:

Year 7/8 8.30 am-12.00noon Saturday mornings.. Max 30 overs. Pitch length 18 meters, 40 metre Boundary. 1st Innings finish by 10:10 am. Batter retires at 30 balls or Coaches discretion. A batter faces 6 balls before being dismissed. Max 6 overs per bowler. Max 6 ball overs except last over which has max 8 balls. No Balls & Wides 1 run. LBW’s on the front leg on or behind crease line

College:

Year 10-13. 12.00noon Saturday Afternoon. Batsman retire at 50

Senior/ Men's Cricket - B-Grade, Reserve grade, and Premier Cricket:

Played on Saturday afternoons. Reserve and Premier grades (50 overs) start at 12 PM and B-grade (40 overs) start at 1 PM. Subtle differences in the rules between grades but basic limited-overs formats.

Over 35's Sunday League - Yet to be confirmed for this season 2021/22 

30 - 35 over games every few weeks with 4 to 6 teams from around the Bay. Pretty social, lots of 40 - 50 yr olds - for those cricketers who wish to still be connected with the game they love but can't committ to a full season.
