About Us
Otumoetai Cadets Cricket Club was formed in 1977 and in that time has developed fo be one of the most successful clubs in the region which a number of titles to its name, especially at Premier level including a National Club Championship. Cadets have also produced some great homegrown talent with Trent Boult (Blackcap), Joe Carter (ND Knights Captain), Fergus Lellman (NZ U19) currently amongst it ranks. Jono Boult (ND) has also been a homegrown talent until his retirement this season. We have our own Clubrooms and play on on of the most pleasant grounds in the Bay at Tauranga Domain.
While in previous years Cadets have been primarily a senior club we understand the benefits of a club environment in the nurturing of our young players in the game and providing the opportunity for all ages and abilities to play at an approppriate level. For the last five years Cadets have fielded College Grade teams and from this season are looking to add intermediate grade cricket and Superstar cricket for the real young beginners. We would also love to hear from any age group and will do our best to provide cricket for them.
We have the services of Sam Owen as our club coach. Sam is a qualified professional coach and has created a great name for himself in the Western BOP since his arrival from Blackpool. He is involved in all club practices and has been very popular with many of our Junior and Superclub players in particular. been a big part, along with the support of the committe and some very supportive parents, in creating a group of committed club juniors.
Last season was a a season of mixed success as far as results went with our Premier Mens making the final of the Williams Cup which was a pretty good result with a very young and inexperienced team. Our Intermediate Gold team won there competition in Term 4 before moving on to college grade in Term 1. In Sunday League the Year 7/8 team won the T20 competition in a tense final and the Year 9/10 team won their 50 over competition convincingly. There were positive signs of improvement from most of the other teams and in Term 1 we managed to put out a girls team which was unbeaten in the games they played.
This season the goal is to continue to grow the club and build on the really positive environment at the club. With the experience gained from last year it is hoped that all players get to build on their personal performances of last year and hopefully this will also result in team success as well.Let's hope the season is not disrupted by Covid.
